Block a phone number on your iPhone

Learn how to block unwanted calls and messages from a phone number using the Phone, Messages, or Settings apps.

Why this matters

Blocking a phone number stops unwanted calls and messages. The person won't know they are blocked, but you won't get notifications from them. It's a safe and private way to stop nuisance contact.

Block from the Phone app

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap Recents at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Find the number you want to block. Tap the Info button (an “i” in a circle) next to it. On some phones this is called the Info button in classic view.
  4. Scroll down and tap Block this Caller.
  5. Tap Block Contact to confirm.

Block from the Messages app

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Open the conversation from the number you want to block.
  3. Tap the contact name or number at the top of the conversation.
  4. Scroll down and tap Block this Caller.
  5. Tap Block Contact to confirm.

Block from Settings (iOS 26 or later)

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Blocked Contacts.
  4. Tap Add Blocked Contact.
  5. Search for and choose the contact or number you want to block.
  6. Tap Block Contact.

If something looks different

  • On some iPhones, the button might say Block Caller instead of Block this Caller.
  • In Settings, if you don't see Privacy & Security, look for Blocked or Phone then Blocked Contacts.
  • iOS versions before 26 may not have the Settings option, but you can still block from the Phone or Messages app.

Stay safe

Blocking is private. The person won't be told they are blocked. Never share your passcode, passwords, or verification codes with anyone, even if they say they are from your phone company or a government agency.
